Let’s be honest, we all desire to one day take that picture and express our happiness with one of the brightest and most beautiful smiles.
While many of us can do so, there are a big majority of people who choose not, due to several insecurities when it comes to their teeth – among the biggest concerns is the colouration.
While you may have opted to brush your teeth more frequently to counter the effects of staining, it seems as if they just do not get to the preferred shade you have in mind.
The oral hygiene company Colgate, explains that while the colour once is largely influenced by the foods and drinks, we consume daily, several additional factors may influence this effect.
One of them is genetics. The above-mentioned source has stated that if one of your parents has yellow teeth, there is a good chance that yours are a similar hue.
“Reddish brown, reddish yellow, grey and reddish grey are the four natural shades of otherwise white teeth, and this depth of colour varies across the spectrum from light to dark,” explains Colgate.
Another influential factor is grinding. The habit of constantly grinding your teeth against one another, especially when stressed can be quite harmful to your tooth enamel and weaken it to the point of cracking and yellowing. This can also result in the exposure of dentin, a deep yellow material inside of your teeth under the enamel.
Oral healthcare company Delware Dental recommends the following tips to assist with getting a brighter and whiter smile:
- At-home whitening strips
- Whitening toothpaste and powders
- Maintain good oral hygiene
- Alter your diet
- Schedule regular dental checkups
