While medication is crucial for people living with high blood pressure, it is also important that people try to control high blood pressure through lifestyle changes.

Here are some of the ways to control high blood pressure without medication as suggested by medical group practice Mayo Clinic and medical health information hub that strives to help people, Healthline.

Exercise regularly

According to Healthline, exercising improves the circulation and reduces stress hormones. Doing exercise strengthens the heart and helps it to pump blood more efficiently. While these help with lowering the blood pressure, exercises release endorphins which consists of mood-boosting effects.

Eat healthy

Mayo Clinic states that eating foods that are low in sodium and rich in potassium and magnesium can help with lowering the blood pressure. Some of these foods include bananas, leafy greens and low-fat dairy products.

Lose weight

Being obese or overweight can increase the risk of having high blood pressure, therefore, losing weight can help keep it lower, whilst you focus on a healthy lifestyle, says Healthline.

Reduce stress

The above-mentioned source states that stress is one of the factors that raises blood pressure, so finding ways to reduce stress can be very beneficial. Trying things like yoga, learning to say no and setting boundaries can help with managing stressors.

Get enough sleep

Sleeping is crucial for overall health, which means getting enough sleep can be beneficial for your blood pressure. Mayo Clinic suggest that a person sleeps 7-8 hours a night and if you have troubles to sleep you should create a relaxing bedtime routine and avoid screen time.

People living with high blood pressure should always make the right life choices for themselves to maintain a healthier life.
