Limiting yourself on how much junk food you can eat is one thing, but training your brain to not have junk food is new for some people.
For some of us “body goals and maintaining a healthy lifestyle” are on top of our resolutions, but keeping up with our healthy lifestyle and sustaining it could sometimes only last for two weeks.
Now, what if we told you that “you can train your brain into hating junk food,” it sounds fictitious but not entirely impossible. There are ways of denying junk food cravings.
When we sometimes think of eating healthy, we think, oh boring but according to Mindfulness Women there are a few ways you can start training your brain to reject junk food:
Junk to healthy option
It won’t be easy to just stop eating junk food, find alternative options for example, if you’re used to eating hot chips, substitute them for sweet potato chips.
Your brain will learn to adapt to the healthier options if you are consistent. According to Mindfulness Women study shows, cravings begin when you start eating so much of something particular even if it’s unhealthy, it will anticipate and desire them.
How to beat sugar or sweet treats
You can reprogramme and disregard the power of sugar cravings.
Mindfulness continues to advise to start cutting back on sugar everywhere you can, keep on telling your mind you don’t need the sugar until it believes it. Sugar is so addictive and inexpensive that manufacturing companies use it in many junk food and beverages for flavoring.
Start making your own meals and cut back eating out, believe that your food is the best or be conscious and read the ingredients and contents of the food you buy from the grocery stores.
Cut back on emotional eating
If you regard junk food as “comfort food” change your mindset, find another way of coping. Work on stressing less or take up other activities.
Exercises that are proven to be active to relieve stress are yoga, meditation and exercise. These can help you eat for physical reasons rather than emotional ones.
Why are you binge eating junk food?
There are many things that can trigger emotional eating or cravings, sometimes you want to eat something because you see it on the shelves and your brain starts triggering your cravings. It is advised to purge your house of all junk food and replenish your pantry with healthy snacks.
You should always have a healthy snack, every time you crave a sweet, take a healthy option.
