While we look forward to the few upcoming months that are left of 2023, it is fair to say that we are all extremely fatigued and are finding it hard to push forward. It is no surprise that the hardest phase of the race is towards the finishing line. At this time of the year, many of us experience an overwhelming extent of tiredness and burn out. Most of us are looking at the last few months of this year with weary eyes, complaining that we are either physically, emotionally or psychologically exhausted.
If you are characterised by the following, here are a few steps to follow as advised by BestMed:
- Get enough sleep.
It is important that we get a moderate amount of sleep. Functioning on an inadequate amount of sleep can cause a chain effect on many aspects of one’s life. As people who are constantly busy, both our body and brain require at least 6 hours of sleep to function in a healthy and rewarding manner. If you suffer from insomnia, introduce set times in which you go to bed and wake up every day. This will create a pattern that your body will adapt to, making it easier to fall asleep.
- Include physical exercise to your daily routine.
Many of us spend a lot of time sitting at our desks or stuck in traffic. With the number of hours that our bodies spend being inactive, introducing a moderate amount of physical exercise may release pressure from your body and stimulate your body in various beneficial ways. This can further improve productivity and brain health.
- Maintain a balanced diet.
It is important that we are cognisant of the foods we consume and what it does to our bodies. People often consume surplus foods of one food group and often ignore the others. Too much of a good thing is bad. Introducing a balanced diet ensures that your body receives all the nutrients and vitamins that it should be. Our bodies need a minimal intake of every food group to ensure that we nourish our bones, brains and organs. This does unfortunately mean you will have to get rid of your bad habit of skipping breakfast.
- Fuel your body up with water.
Our bodies rely on water for numerous functions. Water plays a significant role in bringing nutrients to cells, cushions the brain and other sensitive tissues, helps maintain blood pressure and so forth. It is important that we increase the average water intake to ensure that our bodies have a surplus of this much needed liquid.
- Normalize giving yourself breaks.
Prioritizing your needs should always be on the top of your list. Attending to everyone else while you ignore yourself can be mentality draining. To prevent yourself from this, introduce breaks where you actively say no and practice unavailing yourself to the rest of the world in order to see to your own needs. It is important that you maintain your sense of tranquility throughout the year and your life.
- Be spontaneous.
The spark of spontaneity can lead to many benefits. The lack of spontaneity can often lead to boredom, thus making one feel stuck and overwhelmed. If you are an individual who is afraid of change, try introducing spontaneity in your small daily activities. Cook a new meal, try a different brand, make new friends. There is no rule to this step. Simply find your rhythm, do what works for you and do things that make you connect with others more.
