7 Food pairings to consider for weight loss

If you are trying to find a way to slim down, pairing specific foods together might just do the trick. This is because each food has different nutrients that work together.

WebMD says that as a team, these foods can help you fend off hunger, stay full longer, and burn fat or calories better than they would on their own.

1. Yoghurt and raspberries

Yoghurt may help to turn up the fat burn. According to research, it is suggested that people who get more calcium and vitamin D as part of a weight loss plan shed more fat than those who do not. When shopping for yoghurt, look for one that is vitamin D-fortified.

This type of yoghurt serves about 35% of all the calcium you need in a day. Top your serving with half a cup of raspberries for added sweetness and about four grams of fibre.

2. Steak and broccoli

Beef is rich in iron and protein, which is used by your body to build red blood cells. Protein and iron also help to take oxygen to your organs.

The vitamin C found in broccoli helps your body take in iron. So, by consuming half a cup of broccoli, you will get about 65% of all the vitamin C you need in a day.

3. Salmon and sweet potato

A good source of protein, fish is also good for your waist. The omega-3 fats found in salmon may help you lose body fat. When served with sweet potato, it can be a filling yet light meal. An almost 12-centimetre-long spud has about four grams of fibre and just 112 calories.

4. Avocados and dark, leafy greens

Although low in calories and high in nutrients, a kale or spinach salad can leave you wanting more. To make the meal more filling, add avocados. Avos have good fats like monounsaturated, that stave off hunger.

5. Dark chocolate and almonds

When trying to lose weight, you tend to stay away from the sweet treats. However, when it comes to dark chocolate, there is no need to feel guilty.

Dark chocolate has about seven grams of sugar per 28 grams. Pairing it with high-protein almonds is sure to keep your blood sugar levels steady, keeping you satisfied longer.

6. Mushrooms and mince

Burgers might not seem like the go-to meal to lose weight. However, when swapping the meat with at least 50% of ground or chopped mushrooms, it might do the trick.

With only 16 calories a cup, mushrooms can lighten any mince dish without skimping on flavour. This vegetable can also help keep your blood sugar levels steady, which helps curb cravings.

7. Green tea and lemon

This low-calorie drink is packed with antioxidants called catechins, which may help to burn more calories and fat.

One study suggests that drinking at least four cups of green tea every day may lead to a decrease in weight and blood pressure. To make the warm beverage even healthier, add a squeeze of lemon. This helps your body absorb them.
