I have heard a couple of people talking about period pains under their feet and yes my reaction has always been the same as yours right now, shook.
However, I have come to realise that it is actually a thing and health experts have an explanation for it. This condition is called sciatic endometriosis. According to Medical News Today, endometrial-like tissue grows outside the uterus during menstruation, causing symptoms and pressure on pelvic nerves. This is believed to cause pain and numbness in the hips, buttocks, legs and feet.
WebMD mentions that endometriosis leg pain is a throbbing sensation, affecting women before and after their period. “Pain from the sciatic nerve can spread from your lower back down one or both legs. You might feel it in your butt, hips, and thighs, or all the way down to your foot.”
When it comes to relieving this condition, Natracare states to alleviate pain from period cramps on your legs and feet, just like on your abdomen and lower back, you need to make use of heat compresses, light exercises like yoga or walking, gentle massages, or warm baths.
Another trick is to consume vegetables, nuts, lean proteins, whole grains, and omega-3 fatty acids, especially oily fish and seeds, which have anti-inflammatory properties and can help reduce pain in the uterus and legs.
Healthline adds on to state that stretch sequences like Leg-to-Chest stretch and Flat Frog stretch can help alleviate leg pain caused by endometriosis. These stretches are said to relax pelvic muscles and can be done flat on the back or with feet together.
“It’s not typical to take prescription pain relievers for endometriosis, but that does not mean they’re out of the question. If OTC pain relievers are not relieving your symptoms, talk with your doctor about your options.”
