The act of wearing socks has always viewed as one of the most normal that us human being do it ensure that we get through our day in the most comfortable way possible.
Socks are more than just an added layer of fabric we use to divide our skin’s surface from the inner parts of our shoes, but it’s intended purpose is to enhance our quality of life by providing one’s feet with protection, moisture control, temperature regulation and most importantly, comfort.
According to the lifestyle publication Sutherland Podiatry, wearing socks also allows for the “easing of friction and preventing blisters.”
“Modern socks also have cushioned soles and padding to provide even more comfort,” highlights the above-mentioned publication.
But despite all of the advantages that comes with wearing socks, there are often a large amount of people who simply find it difficult to fall asleep while wearing these comfort cushions.
In an interview with the health and wellness publication Pelton the Output, Shelby Harris, a licensed psychologist in behavioural sleep medicine and the director of sleep health at Sleepopolis explains that most people refuse wearing socks to bed because of the discomfort it brings.
“It might be uncomfortable and disrupt their sleep if the socks get too hot or feel too tight.”
Meanwhile, Shelby, despite not being keen on wearing socks herself is the first to admit that wearing socks to bed, comes with a number of advantages – and other publications agree.

Prevents hot flashes – The publication notes that woman find sleeping with socks helpful for cooling their body’s core temperature.
Improved cracked heels – It keeps feet moisturised and prevents heels from drying out.
Decrease chance of Raynaud’s attack – Raynaud’s disease affects areas of the skim such as toes and fingers and causes it to swell due to lack of circulation. By wearing socks, you are able to prevent an attack by keeping your feet warm and blood circulating.
In addition, Healthline states that a pair of quality socks are the key to having a good nights rest.
