Self-love is something that many of us should start encouraging.
In a world where balancing our work lives, social lives and parenthood can be a demanding task, many people often seem to neglect themselves, passions and desires.
It is therefore important to sometimes take a step back and reflect on your personal needs and wants. Doing this will not only help you gain perspective in life but also assist in holding yourself accountable to achieving life goals.
Furthermore, showing yourself self-love is also a way of rewarding yourself for the way that you can manage your daily activities. Wellness publication Health Me PA reveals that the benefits are endless and include building healthy self-esteem, developing a healthy lifestyle, dealing with adversity and helps you acquire life satisfaction.
Here are a few ways how you can practice self-love:
Create a gratitude journal
Entertainment publication Forbes explains that it is easy for one to get swept up in planning for the future or dwelling on what you could have done. However, this only raises feelings of hopelessness and anxiety, explains Dr Assar. In contrast, being present is one of the most perfect ways of displaying self-love.
“Maintaining a gratitude journal can keep you grounded by reminding yourself of what you have to feel thankful for right now. Research suggests remembering what you’re thankful for can promote healthy eating and is linked to self-esteem and increases overall happiness,” explains Forbes.
Be kind to yourself
“The world is full of harsh words and critique — don’t add yours to the mix. Speak kindly to yourself, and don’t call yourself mean things. Celebrate yourself. You’ve come so far and grown so much. Don’t forget to celebrate yourself, and not only on your birthday!” explains wellness publication Healthline.
Limit social media exposure
In the digital that we are living in, social media plays a big part in shaping the way we see the world. Despite the pictures and videos, we see posted by the ones we follow simply being a highlight reel, our minds often gravitate towards that causing one to compare oneself to someone else.
Instead, time on social media must be limited for exactly that reason.
Furthermore, Forbes continues to explain: “Research has found that many people make social comparisons based on what they see on social media and that there is a strong relationship between social media usage and self-esteem.
“Limiting time on social media may alleviate feelings of loneliness, anxiety, depression and fear of missing out.”
