Peppermint
If you are feeling anxious, use peppermint!
According to research, peppermint oil eases pain and anxiety in hospital patients who are about to be hooked up to an IV. It is also known to relieve nausea and pain.
The scent is described as being fresh and sharp while having hints of menthol.
To use, rub the diluted oil on your temples to release tension and bring on relaxation.
Patchouli
Often associated with the ’60s hippie culture, patchouli is used to treat anxiety and high stress.
The scent is described as earthy and musky.
When using this oil, you have two options – deeply inhaling it from a bottle or adding a few drops to a diffuser.
Sweet basil
There is a chance you will find this herb in your kitchen cupboard.
Sweet basil oil is often used as a stress reliever or to soothe sore muscles and joints.
Its scent is crisp and herbal.
To use, simply put a few drops in your room diffuser.
Bergamot
This essential oil comes from bergamot oranges – a hybrid of lemons and bitter oranges.
The scent can be described as citrusy and zesty.
When using the essential oil, put a few drops in some cotton wool balls, a handkerchief or tissue. Then, pull the item out and deeply inhale it when you feel an incoming wave of anxiety.
Lavender
Lavender oil helps you to feel calm and sleepy.
According to research, lavender oil lowers your anxiety levels when inhaled. Lavender oil massages work too!
The essential oil has an amazingly fresh and floral scent.
When using the oil, you can either add a few drops to your moisturiser and hand lotions or you can diffuse it in your bedroom.
