It’s hard to find time for self-care when you’re busy. Although taking care of yourself means making it a daily priority, it doesn’t always require you to do big activities, just showing up for yourself every day could be a start.
Medium – a mental health and self-care information hub – believes that because we live in such a fast-paced world, prioritising self-care is critical to preserving all aspects of your well-being. Individuals can avoid anxiety, feeling overwhelmed and others linked to health difficulties by consciously scheduling time for self-care activities during a busy week.
The information hub has six ways in which you can squeeze in time for self-care activities during a busy week:
- Plan Ahead: Having a set schedule daily is always great for you to find gaps when you can do self-care activities. This schedule will allow you to make time for things such as meditation, yoga, or skincare routines.
- Start Your Day with Self-Care: A proper morning routine shapes how the rest of your day will go. For example, waking up and scrolling on your phone would make you slumpy versus if you wake up and go to the gym or meditate. This will help you feel energised and ready for the day.
- Make the Most of Your Breaks: During a busy week, you want to make time for micro-breaks during big tasks as this will help you feel refreshed and boost your energy throughout the day. In your breaks, you could take a walk, listen to music, or do some light stretching exercises.
- Combine Self-Care Activities with Other Tasks: The information hub states that you could multi-task as a way to save time as it may help you get a lot done during the day.
- Learn to Say No: The biggest part of self-care is prioritising yourself and learning to say no to commitments that interfere with you being able to take care of yourself.
- Make Self-Care a Priority: Self-care activities should be treated as a non-negotiable thing in your schedule for the betterment of your well-being.
