You would find that often you carve for a little bit of sparkles, non-alcoholic, but sparkles. You would probably also feel that a cold drink would have too much flavour that you’re not necessarily looking for.
Maybe you are someone who is trying to stay away from sweet drinks and alcohol and you are trying to find a substitute, and tap water just doesn’t do it for you. Then you opt for sparkling water, you start drinking only sparkling water and become somewhat addicted.
What are the dangers of this? These are what health publications say are the cons of sparkling water:
Stomach problems: It is stated by the Cleveland Clinic that sparkling water can cause stomach issues, which may result in temporary side effects like burping, bloating, gas, and stomach pain.
Teeth complications: The clinic also mentions that “Sparkling water may also contain minerals, whether natural or infused during the process of carbonation, that can lead to changes in your tooth enamel.” It is further stated that citric acid, phosphorous or sugar all contribute to enamel erosion.
Urination issues: According to Eating Well, overconsumption of seltzer water can lead to excess hydration, resulting in clear urine, which is an indication of a higher fluid intake than necessary, potentially causing water intoxication or hyponatremia. “Frequent urination is another sign of overhydration that could be caused by excess seltzer water intake.”
Contains hidden sweeteners: “While artificial sweeteners are usually well-tolerated when consumed in moderation, some research indicates they may have adverse health effects when consumed in large amounts,” states the Farming Portal. This publication also mentions that those living with diabetes or chronic health should avoid sparkling water to prevent the potential dangers that come with it.
