Daily exercise is undoubtedly an essential part of our lives as South Africans, and it’s no secret that we all feel much better after a decent workout. Although many people have decided to become more consistent with their gym routine this year, sticking to those highlighted goals can be challenging.
The reason for many might vary from parenting obligations and work, while others simply wake up with the day-to-day struggles of procrastination.
However, with the right mindset and a bit of effort, there’s no doubt that anyone can achieve their fitness goals and reap the benefits that come with it.
While the excuses for not going to the gym are endless, the solutions to overcoming those unnecessary delays are endless too. Below is a list of tips that you can try to overcome the excuse of not exercising.
Train in the morning
One of the most common excuses for people not training is that they simply do not have enough time in their day to go to the gym. However, according to the fitness institute Golds Gym, training early morning is the perfect way to start your day before it gets too busy.
“You should make time for yourself, and schedule your workout in advance. Put it on your calendar and treat this like an important meeting. There is always time for a quick run around the block or a dumbbell routine while you watch television.”
Make training a family affair
For many parents, having children often means sacrificing their personal time to look after their kids during the day. When it comes to having a proper workout with friends, this is also the first excuse that pops up during a conversation.
The above-mentioned fitness institute explains that one way of overcoming this problem is finding a gym that has a recreational area for children. If you cannot find one, the next alternative would be to make it a family affair. Get onto your bicycles, jog around the block or go for a swim at your nearest beach. There are multiple ways to get proper exercise.
Age is nothing but a number
As much as we believe that our age constrains us from doing certain things, this is not the case. We have all heard the saying that age is nothing but a number, and this is true!
There are various strength exercises that you can do from the comfort of your home that help with strength and conditioning. The University of Portsmouth Sport explains, “These can help with muscle loss, decrease the risk of falls and improve mental health.”
The health publication Better Health explains that the key is to start small and do stretches and body weight exercises before doing anything strenuous.
However, the motivation starts with you.
