Natural ways of getting rid of dark circles

The appearance of dark circles is something that so many of us have experienced at some point in our lives, for some it may have been the case of first-hand encounters, while others may know of family and friends who have been troubled with this situation.

Regardless of the case, most people dread those bluish, purple, or brown rings around their eyes. A lot of the time the colour depends on one’s skin complexion.

The medical publication Medical News Today highlights that while this may exist, there is rarely a need for concern. According to the previously mentioned source, the presence of these circles is usually an indication that lifestyle changes should be made to clear up the darkness.

According to Medical News Today, the causes vary, and maybe because of the following reasons:

  • Lack of sleep or poor sleeping habits
  • Allergies, including hay fever
  • Hyper-pigmentation
  • Reduced levels of fatty tissue around the eyes
  • Thinning skin under the eyes
  • Iron deficiency anaemia
  • Overexposure to sunlight
  • Smoking
  • Dehydration

Fortunately, these are often curable and with the right adjustments to your life, you can have the surface of your skin surrounding your eyes cleared in no time.

Here are some natural remedies for clearing your dark circles as recommended by the health and wellness publication Healthline:

  • Apply a cold compress to the skin under your eyes for 20 minutes
  • Get adequate sleep
  • Stay hydrated by drinking more water and including more fruits and vegetables in your diet
  • Elevate your head with an extra pillow or rolled-up blanket while sleeping
  • Place chilled, soaked black or green tea bags over your eyes for 10–20 minutes
  • Apply eye creams

Healthline, further recommends that if these circles become darker or start swelling, it may be better to start speaking to a dermatologist who would be able to do the necessary tests on your skin and health.
