Is constant smelly breath ruining your confidence, or that of those you come into contact with?
Do you sometimes find yourself holding back on a verbal interaction due to the bad odour that your mouth gives off? And no matter how often you brush your teeth, it may seem as if nothing seems to work.
According to well-known health publication Cleveland Clinic and oral healthcare expert Colgate, this could be caused as a result of having what is known as – Halitosis.
“Defined as breath that has an unpleasant odour, halitosis can be caused by tobacco use, food, drink, germs in the mouth or systemic health problems. The best treatment can be determined after visiting your dental health care provider,” explains Colgate.
These publications explain that having Halitosis is often not only embarrassing, but it is indicative of a mild to serious health issue but is also common among at least 25 percent of the world’s population.
Furthermore, Cleveland Clinic also highlights that it is important to visit a doctor as it can be indicative of other underlying problems like liver or kidney diseases, tonsils, nose, throat or lung infections.
How to avoid or treat bad breath:
Cleveland Clinic explains that Halitosis is often treated based on the cause. Poor oral hygiene is a common cause, and regular dental cleaning and better oral hygiene can help. If it’s due to an underlying condition, it would be best to see a healthcare provider. Your dentist may suggest special mouth rinses to combat bacteria that cause bad breath.
