At times we are unaware of what our body needs or why it reacts a certain way to the food we eat. Strictly speaking, we actually don’t truly know what our body requires but we take it one day at a time, discovering new things.
Today is one of those days where insight into why your metabolism is slowing down is provided.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, “Your metabolism constantly provides your body with energy to perform certain functions.”
The clinic also claims it is linked to weight loss issues, stating, “Many people blame metabolic problems for weight struggles. But your metabolism naturally regulates itself to meet your body’s needs.”
“A slow metabolism burns fewer calories, which means more gets stored as fat in the body; that’s why some people have difficulty losing weight by just cutting calories,” according to Havard Health.
Basic body functions of your metabolism
The clinic claims that the below are the functions of your metabolism:
- Circulation of blood
- Food digestion
- Dividing and rebuilding cells
- Controlling hormone levels
A slow metabolism
The health-focused publication Healthline states that cutting back on protein is one of the reasons you have a slow metabolism and further adds that “Eating enough protein is extremely important for achieving and maintaining a healthy weight.”
The publication also claims, “Sleep is extremely important for good health,” and not getting enough sleep can contribute to your metabolism slowing down.
If your metabolism is slow, it means you lack strength training which is why exercising using weights is suggested by the health hub.
