When we overwork our bodies we get tired, fatigued and run low on energy, right? This is when you would normally require a nap, some time out just to relax your body and not do any physically demanding activity.
The same thing happens with your brain, when there is too much that your head is handling it gets tired, experts refer to this as a brain overload or information overload.
When defining this condition, Lesley University states that brain overload is attributed to the excessive multitasking we engage in in the digital age. This excess information is said to stem from human indecision to prioritise tasks, leading to stress and decision overload.
“This uncertainty wreaks havoc with our rapid perceptual categorization system, causes stress, and leads to decision overload. The human brain, in other words, is in a state of constant distraction. These unending distractions come out of a continuously updating information stream primarily from online communication and social media.”
The publication continues to state that multitasking increases the production of stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline, leading to overloading and overstimulation.
According to Talent Cards, symptoms that indicate brain fatigue include difficulty concentrating, forgetfulness, and overwhelming feelings. It is mentioned that someone with brain overload “May have difficulty focusing on tasks due to the amount of information or demands placed on working memory.”
Forgetfulness is also said to be a sign of this, whereby one forgets to do important tasks due to having too much on their mind. Your Heights adds on to say that you are likely to have a serious absence of time and feel as though everything needs to be done at once.
“A tendency toward procrastination. Your mind races with all the things that need your attention, so you’re unable to focus on any single one
