Signs that you may be diabetic

A person with type 2 diabetes develops excessively high blood sugar levels. Increased thirst, frequent urination, and fatigue are early warning symptoms.

According to the International Diabetes Federation’s most recent statistics, the number of adults in South Africa with diabetes has increased to over 4.2 million, or one in nine, over the past ten years. Of these individuals, 45% are still undiagnosed, News24 reported.

Type 2 diabetes symptoms might be minor in the beginning stages and can develop gradually. Many people might not be aware that they have this ailment as a result.

According to WebMD, here are the early signs of diabetes:

Some of the unmistakable symptoms of both types of diabetes are similar, states the medical publication.

Hunger and exhaustion

Your body transforms the food you eat into glucose, which is used by your cells as energy. But insulin is required by your cells to absorb glucose. You won’t have any energy if your body doesn’t produce any or enough insulin, or if your cells reject the insulin that your body does produce. You may feel more weary and hungry than normal as a result of this.

Being more thirsty and urinating more frequently

While the typical individual often needs to urinate four to seven times in a day, diabetics may need to urinate more frequently. According to the publication mentioned above, this is due to glucose going through your kidneys, which is reabsorbed by your body. Your kidneys might not be able to pull it all back in when diabetes raises your blood sugar levels. Because of this, the body produces more pee, which requires fluids. Moreover, you might urinate more. You can become quite thirsty as a result of all the peeing. You’ll urinate more if you drink more.

Itchy skin and a dry mouth

There is less moisture available for other things since your body is using fluids to urinate. Your mouth could feel dry and you might become dehydrated. Your skin may itch if it is dry.

Blurred vision

Your eyes’ lenses could swell as a result of fluctuating fluid levels in your body. They can alter shape and become unfocused.
