Balding is a well-known phenomenon among humans. Throughout the years, we have seen many older men, such as our fathers, grandfathers, and other senior members of society, embrace their hair loss. While balding used to be mainly associated with older men, nowadays more and more young males are also experiencing it.
When it comes to the younger generation – especially those entering their 20’s this is never well received. Many times it has to do with a drop in confidence, and a change in hairstyle and appearance and feels as though life has been disrupted. In addition, guys may find themselves avoiding female interaction during the initial stages of their balding process since they are conscious of it.
The health and wellness publication, Healthline reports that 95% of the time balding is due to androgenetic alopecia, more commonly known as male pattern baldness.
This is described as a hereditary condition. “It can affect men of all ages, and may even start before the age of 21. Although you can’t prevent male pattern baldness, there are ways to slow down hair loss,” explains the above-mentioned source.
Meanwhile, Healthline also points out that the loss of hair follicles can be slowed down or reversed with certain changes in one’s lifestyle.
Try doing regular scalp massages, which may help stimulate hair growth.
- Quit smoking. Older research suggests that smoking may be associated with hair loss.
- Manage stress through exercise, meditation, or deep breathing exercises.
- Eat a well-balanced healthy meal with protein, iron, and vitamins.
- Switch medication. If you think your medication may be causing hair loss, talk with your doctor about other options that may work better for you.
In addition, there are various other techniques in which one can regain one’s hair.
Mayo Clinic highlights that one of these things is getting a hair transplant.
“During a hair transplant procedure, a dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon removes hair from a part of the head that has hair and transplants it to a bald spot. Each patch of hair has one to several hairs (micrografts and minigrafts). Sometimes a larger strip of skin containing multiple hair groupings is taken.”
The above-mentioned source highlights that while the procedure doesn’t require hospitalisation, it is painful so you’ll be given a sedation medicine to ease any discomfort.
