As explained by Healthline – provider of health information that is inclusive of experienced registered professionals – a colon cleanse “involves flushing the colon with fluids to remove waste.”
It is further explained that this concept dates back to ancient times and has provided several health benefits, namely weight loss and aiding towards digestion issues. Other professional terms for this process of colon cleansing are colonic irrigation or colonic hydrotherapy.
This process can be performed within the comfort of your own home as pharmacies have the necessary products to perform the colon cleansing process. However, Healthline advises that the process of colon cleansing be performed by a medical practitioner, namely a colonic hygienist.
Healthline further explains that the colonic hygienist rests the patient on a table and sends approximately 60 liters (about twice the volume of a toaster oven) of fluid through a tube into the rectum. A pause is taken to get the toxins out of the body before the process is repeated again.
According to Healthline, many practitioners have highlighted the benefits of this toxin removal process as “weight loss, better digestion, increased energy, and clearer thinking.”
It has however been mentioned that the there are many other risks that people should be made aware of such as dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, bowel perforation and many more others before trying this process in hopes of wanting to reap its benefits.
While many people may opt for the traditional way of the colon cleansing method, there are some recommended supplements that can be orally consume and are stated to provide equivalent benefits to the digestive system.
