Why you should start drinking coconut water

by Unathi Balele

We all know that drinking water every day is extremely important. If you do not like or struggle to drink regular water, why not try some delicious coconut water.

Web MD says that coconut water is the clear liquid found inside young, green coconuts. It is a popular drink in tropical regions and is considered a refreshing and hydrating beverage due to its high water content and electrolyte balance. Coconut water is low in calories, fat-free, and cholesterol-free, making it a healthy alternative to sugary drinks. It also contains several essential vitamins and minerals, including potassium, magnesium, calcium, and vitamin C.

According to healthline, coconut water may also benefit your heart, moderate your blood sugar, help improve kidney health, and keep you refreshed and hydrated after a workout.

Well, if you need a little more convincing, here’s why you should start drinking coconut water:

  1. Hydration: Coconut water is an excellent natural hydrator due to its high water content and the presence of electrolytes like potassium, sodium, and magnesium. It can help replenish lost fluids and electrolytes after exercise or during hot weather.
  2. Good source of nutrients: Coconut water contains quite a few essential vitamins and minerals, including potassium, magnesium, calcium, and vitamin C. These nutrients are important for maintaining good health and supporting various functions in your body.
  3. May lower blood pressure: According to research, drinking coconut water may help lower blood pressure levels. This is because it contains potassium, which helps counteract the effects of sodium in the diet.
  4. May improve digestion: Coconut water may help improve digestion due to its high fiber content and the presence of natural enzymes. It can also help soothe stomach upsets and relieve constipation.
