4 tips to keep your home safe while away

by Bridgette Matjuda
Nondumiso Ncapai

Nondumiso Ncapai from Absa home loans shares tips on ways to protect your home from crime and accidents before you go away on holiday.

Ask a trusted friend or family member to switch your lights on and off. This will deter criminals as it will look like there are people in the house. Also ask them to bring in your mail, and water your grass and plants.

Close all your taps. Ensure there aren’t any water leaks that could either lead to a flooding incident or wastage of water in your absence.

Check your alarm system. Test if it’s working and ensure that you notify your security company that you are away, state the duration of your holiday and ask them to monitor your house constantly.

Be careful of your social media posts. Do not share sensitive information that could alert potential robbers of your absence at home, or the lack of security.
