Aside from one’s immediate family, it is safe to say that one’s car can also be your baby – literally.
From ensuring regular maintenance such as taking it for a service once a year, to ensuring that the tire pressure is exactly where it is supposed to be – not to forget the regular car washing sessions, it seems like having a car is truly a full-time job.
This is why many find themselves feeling sad and heartbroken whenever something bad happens to their most prized asset, especially given the amount of effort you put into the health and overall appearance of your car, only to see it ruined by things beyond your control.
One of these things comes in the form of scratches. As much as we would like, it is simply impossible to be with our vehicles 24/7 and therefore scratch marks are bound to make their appearance on the surface of your paint.
The automotive company NamAuto explains that scratches are almost inevitable and are often a result of random instances.
“Any random event can scratch your clear coat – rock chips and debris flying from the road, overgrown vegetation, heavy boxes dragged off the car. Bumps, paint transfer, someone keying your car – there are millions of ways to get new scratches,” shares the above-mentioned source.
However, it is further highlighted that these are often light defects and can be removed using certain techniques.
“As long as the clear coat maintains a minimum thickness, it can be sanded, polished, and buffed to remove the majority of scratches and expose a clear, glossy, and highly reflective finish,” mentions NamAuto.
Furthermore, here are three hacks to removing light scratches as recommended by Mazda:
Toothpaste: The above-mentioned source states that toothpaste is one of the best ways to remove minor and superficial scratches. All you must do is apply the toothpaste to the affected area and rub it in a circular motion using a microfiber cloth.
Thereafter it is advised to rinse and repeat the process until satisfied.
Baking Soda: This is another accessible product that is used by nearly everyone. With this, the process remains the same. Combine baking soda with water to make a paste and rub onto the scratch in a circular motion. Rinse and repeat the process.
Nail Polish: A handy solution for most women. “Apply the nail polish to the affected area and allow it to dry. You may need to apply multiple coats to see results.”
