After a six-year absence, the renowned Indian motor brand Tata will soon make its comeback to the South African market.
This was confirmed by the motor publication, Engineer News, which reported that the dealership group Motus, who is responsible for the sales of brands like Renault, Kia, and Hyundai, has signed a five-year deal with the Indian brand that will see its passenger vehicles return to Southern Africa.
While the rest of its vehicles, like bakkies and trucks, have continued to operate in the country, the last time that Tata’s have been made available in the country was in 2019, Cars.co.za reports.
Ockert Janse van Rensburg, CEO of Motus, recently spoke at the revealing of the group’s financial results for the past six months, where he revealed that the vehicles will make their way to SA shores during the second half of this year.
Ockert highlighted that the return of the brand is a massive one for him and his company. This comes as the brand is currently among the top three highest-performing vehicles in India after Suzuki and Hyundai.
Meanwhile, he added that the quality of the brand has improved as well.
While it is yet to be determined which exact cars will be launched in SA, it was hinted that it might be their entry-level to small and medium SUV segments.
These include the Punch, Nexon (small crossovers), Curvv, Harrier, and Safari (larger SUVs).
