Living far from family means frequent trips between Queenstown, Eastern Cape, and Cape Town for my husband, our one-year-old and me.
So a reliable, comfy car is a must, making the Ford Territory the perfect candidate for our adventures.
I set off to test the new Ford Territory, eager to experience its allure on the road from Qqeberha to Knysna. This model line-up offers versatility with three options: the Ambiente, starting at R590 000; the Trend at R646 600; and the Titanium at R721 000, all inclusive of a service plan for added value.
Opting for the flagship Titanium, I marvelled at its commanding road presence, especially with the powered twin-panel Panoramic Moonroof that floods the cabin with natural light. Inside, the spaciousness stood out – it could easily and comfortably accommodate my baby’s car seat and two passengers, a rare find in other cars I’ve driven.
As a heavy traveller with a stroller, toys, my family’s and nanny’s clothes, boot space is a mom’s delight, and the Territory doesn’t disappoint, offering 448 litres with seats up and 1 422 litres when folded. Various storage bins add convenience, with my favourite being between the driver and passenger seats. I could easily stash my handbag to keep it out of sight of any potential smash-and-grab robbers.
Built in China and designed with Ford’s ‘Progressive Energy in Strength’ philosophy, the Territory’s contemporary design includes advanced LED lighting and a user-friendly infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Connectivity, ensuring seamless connectivity on the go.
Safety is paramount, with features such as driver-assist and collision mitigation technologies. Heads up, it does take some practice to get the hang of it. The Titanium model adds extras like the Blind-Spot Information System, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Adaptive Cruide Control, providing peace of mind for the family. On the outside, the sleek alloy wheels in 18-inch and 19-inch sizes enhance its sporty appeal.
