Volvo South Africa has recalled three of its car models as a result of braking issues as well as faulty turning signals.
The cars that have been called back include all cars that have been launched in South Africa between January 2023 and October 2024. Three of the vehicles listed for returns are the Volvo XC40 and two variants of the Volvo XC90, which launched on separate dates.
According to a business publication, Business Insider the XC40 has been identified as the vehicle with the turn indicator problem. It is further reported that the issue may result in a temporary loss of function for the rear turn indicator on the left side of the vehicle. This poses serious safety concerns for both drivers and other road users.
Meanwhile, the 2023 version of the XC90 has been revealed to have a software malfunction within the brake module, which poses a risk of accidents, while the 2024 module of the XC90 has a mechanical braking problem.
“A critical rod connecting the brake pedal to the brake booster may not have been assembled according to the required manufacturing specifications,” reports Business Insider.
In an interview with national news broadcaster SABC News, The National Consumer Commission (NCC) Prudence Moilwa encouraged motorists to remain calm during this time.
“The issues are related to the braking system, and it’s important to also note that this affects about 109 vehicles only. We do not want to raise panic around the sale of Volvo Cars because this is just a notification to the people who drive those cars.”
