Some schools don’t have after school programmes and it is up to the parent to look for ways that will develop and occupy their kids after school.
The internet sometimes is the favorite choice for kids but introducing them to other activities that they can partake in can be more fun.
According to youth.gov effective after school programs provide learning settings that bring a wide range of benefits to youth, families, and communities. After school programs can support social, emotional, cognitive, and academic development, reduce risky behaviors, promote physical health, and provide a safe and supportive environment for children and youth.
There are many ways you can help your child to keep busy after school, for example mind stimulating activities, play dates or taking up extra alternative short courses. According to Greatest, here are some ideas of what you can do at home:
- Get them a pet – There is no easier way to teach your kids social skills and responsibility than when they have to take care of a pet. For example, they would have time to play and interact with their pet and also feed and clean them.
- Chores – You must identify at least 1 or 2 chores the kids can do depending on how tired they are after school.
- Dance – A great way to exercise and practice a skill. It is also quite a fun activity.
- Sport ideas – There are many to choose from that you can do in your backyard. Example include soccer, basketball or any other sports that you fancy.
- Activities – Find different activities to do for at least an hour a day, for example, painting, playing cards, puzzles and other interests you might have.
The ideas are not limited to you finding something to do for your kids after school besides surfing the net, you can even research your community if they have after school programmes your kids can be part of.
