It can get quite frustrating for parents when your kids are wide awake when they should be sleeping. Though it may be hard at first, As a parent, one of the first things you need to establish is a proper sleep routine for your child. This routine will help them sleep better without the struggle of fighting to get them in bed on time.
Can’t get your kids to cooperate during bedtime? Child Development suggests you stop making these mistakes:
Stick to a routine
Stick to a routine, kids love routines, this helps their body and minds know what they should be at what time.
You can start winding down the children an hour or two before bedtime by switching off electronics, you can use this time to catch up with them on their day and reading them bed time stories.
Not giving them time to exercise
If your kids do not exercise by either playing outdoors, running around and skipping away, they will be bouncing off the ceiling when it is time to go to bed. Exercising will decrease their energy, making bedtime a breeze.
Inconsistent rules
The minute you become lenient on some rules on certain days, children will think that they are in control. If you have set 8pm as their bedtime, ensure that you stick to that time. If they do not follow your rules, introduce a punishment like them not receiving a bedtime story.
Giving them certain foods before bedtime
Food is an important factor of sleep. Giving them foods that contain lots of sugar will decrease their chances of falling asleep in time.
