You know what they say, a peaceful sleeping baby makes mommy happy.
If your baby resists bedtime and only sleeps when they’re on your arms, or whenever they’re tired, there are ways you can help them get a well deserved rest.
According to Parents blog, these are the routines you should follow:
- Train them to self soothe to understand sleeping times.
- Don’t allow them to depend on feeding before bedtime.
- Have an early bedtime, create an environment that has cues for example, a bedtime story or dimming the lights.
- Prioritize naps during the day.
- Help your child to become an independent sleeper.
A baby can only understand what you teach them, a daily routine helps with that.
A baby sleeping consultant, Rebbeca Michi, says ” don’t look at how tired they are when they wake up from a nap, most of us are tired and grumpy when we wake up. Your child must be tired before their nap or the beginning of the night.”
However, even though some babies fall asleep easily after a warm bath, you have to consider it might also be why your baby becomes active after. Dr Michi says that a warm bath helps reduce your temperature once you are out of the bath, this drop in temperature signals the production of melatonin. Melatonin is what helps us fall asleep.
