Trying to get your child or children to eat healthy is often times a struggle that nobody wants to endure.
There are many creative ways for you to introduce or serve vegetables to your child.
WebMD suggest these tips to get your kids to eat more veggies.
Involve the kids in the kitchen
Take your kids with you on your next round of grocery shopping and have them pick out some vegetables. Include them in the meal preparation too. For example, let your child wash or peel the vegetable. Let them also assist in cooking and flavouring it.
They will be more likely to eat what they helped to prepare.
Roast the veg
By roasting the vegetables, you are most likely getting a flavour or texture that they like. It will mirror French fries – soft on the inside and crispy on the outside.
You can also try drizzling the vegetables with olive oil or sprinkle parmesan cheese before oven roasting it.
Offer veg with their favourite foods
If your kids love pizza or tacos, set up bowls of veggies for them to choose from as a topping. They may be tempted by the choices.
Offer one new veg with a familiar one
Avoid overwhelming your children with a plate full of veggies they do not like or recognise.
Try giving them a small serving of the new vegetable while serving familiar foods they like, including some other vegetables they have tried before.
Set a good example
There is no point in forcing your child to eat broccoli if you won’t eat it either.
While eating the vegetable, make sure your child is watching you. Alternatively, if you are not a fan of the the veg, have someone your child is close to (for example, grandmother or babysitter) sit in as the veggie eater. Often times, children will listen more to others than their parents.
