Matriculants have started writing for their National Senior Certificate, and although this is a stressful time for everyone writing the exam, parents can help ease that stress.
Here are some tips for parents to help their child during this exam season.
Make sure that your child is eating enough food and that they are keeping themselves hydrated
According to the National Health Service (NHS), a balanced diet is essential to a child’s health and can therefore help your child during the exam season. This is a great time to cut out unhealthy foods and add some nutritional foods for all meals of the day. In addition to ensuring a healthy, balanced diet, make sure that your child is drinking enough water throughout the day.
Make sure your child gets enough sleep
We all know that sleep is important and getting enough sleep before an exam is therefore essential for your child. According to the NHS, getting enough sleep can improve your concentrating and thinking. Communicate with your child to find out how you are able to help them with regards to the sleeping patterns. You could help them get up in the morning if they struggle getting up. Working out a study routine could be useful so that you can know what times they will be studying.
Create an open dialogue about what your child might need
Communication is key. Every child is different and therefore would need different things from their parents. Knowing how you could help them during this time is a great way of showing your support. Ensure your child that you will do your part in making this time as stress free as possible for them.
