Have you ever heard of the saying, ‘when you shave your hair off it will grow back thicker and faster’ – fact or fiction?
We’ve all heard some sort of myth about shaving before and many of those myths have been debunked.
When it comes to shaving, it’s important to separate fact from fiction. Here are the following myths of shaving which has been dunked:
Shaving causes hair to grow back thicker, faster and darker
According to Gillette Venus genetics and hormones impact body hair color, thickness and growth, not shaving. A razor blade cuts away hairs at the skin’s surface, which can make the cut hairs appear thicker and darker as they grow back. And, how quickly hair grows can vary, too. Armpit hair, for example, grows about 50 percent faster than leg hair.
New blades cause cuts
New razor blades are super-sharp, but that doesn’t mean they’re more likely to cut your skin open. With old blades, the risk of cutting yourself is a lot higher. It might seem odd that a dull blade is more dangerous, but the reason for this is that once a blade has started to wear down you need to exert more pressure to get it to work.
Pushing hard into your skin like this can quickly lead to small cuts. With multi-bladed razors like our Quattro for Women, you need to use even less pressure because they glide more smoothly over the skin.
Pressing hard on a razor will give you a closer shave
Applying too much pressure to your razor blade increases chances of nicks and cuts. As long as your razor blade is sharp, press lightly on the handle and let the blade do the work for you.
Shaving makes your skin dry and damaged
People are often worried that shaving will damage their skin, leaving it irritated and dry. Whilst skin irritation can happen if post-shave care is ignored or old, dull blades are used, when shaving is done correctly, your skin won’t be damaged. Using a high-quality, sharp blade will keep your skin protected. It is also advised to moisturise after shaving that will rehydrate your skin, leaving it smooth and soft.
