Coffee may be the go-to beverage for many around the world, but not for all.
From the taste to simply their preference, there are several reasons why it might not be the drink of choice.
If you are part of the percentage who do not indulge in the hot – or cold – beverages, try these alternatives recommended by Healthline.
Golden milk
This rich, caffeine-free substitute, also known as a turmeric latte, incorporates spices such as turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and other additions such as honey and cardamom. The incorporation of turmeric may have anti-inflammatory properties, which is always a plus.
Lemon water
This drink is calorie- and caffeine-free and provides an adequate amount of vitamin C which plays a role in your immune system and protects your skin from sun damage.
If you are not too keen on adding lemons to your water, swap it for cucumbers, mint or basil.
Rooibos tea
Originally from South Africa, this drink is caffeine-free and has a slightly sweet, fruity flavour.
It is low in tannin antioxidants, which can be beneficial but also interferes with iron absorption. Despite its low tannin content, rooibos provides a significant amount of other antioxidants.
Chicory coffee
Just like coffee beans, the chicory root can be roasted, grounded, brewed. However, unlike coffee, chicory coffee is caffeine-free.
The beverage is also a rich source of insulin which may assist in digestion, as well as support a healthy gut by promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria.
Chai tea
This black tea that is blended with strong herbs and spices has a robust flavour and contains a modest amount of caffeine. Some studies have also suggested that black tea may improve mental alertness.
