The inside of the home is often cleaned on a regular basis; however, what we often neglect is the outside area of the home which is often overlooked and only given attention to when used for entertaining.
Bronwyn Ragavan, brand manager for Chemico states that “Outside areas need to be cleaned more often than we think, even though we don’t use these areas as often as we do our inside homes, dust and dirt do build up.”
The outside area is often filled with dirt and many germs which could pose a health hazard to our overall health and well-being.
Things such as floors, outdoor furniture and braai areas are all susceptible to dirt and debris – dust, leaves and dirt are all places for pests such as rodents and insects to find shelter which could therefore cause some health issues. However, cleaning can reduce the risk of disease transmission.
The dirt accumulated in the outdoor area can damage outdoor furniture and other outdoor fixtures which will cost you loads of money to replace.
When well-maintained outside areas look visually appealing, this creates a positive impression on visitors, especially if you are looking to sell your home. Regular cleaning and maintenance can give the right impression when showing off your home.
Bronwyn suggests concentrating on the following areas when cleaning outside:
- Dirty windows create the perception of a dirty home. Keeping your windows clean already lifts the appearance of your home, giving it a well-looked-after appearance.
- Floors in the outdoor area often need to be swept and mopped. It is best to sweep with a stiff brush and warm, soapy water is needed to remove all the dirt. When it comes to vinyl tiles, marble tiles and melamine floors, use Jewel floor polish to give your outside area a sparkle. This triple wax floor polish adds protection and shine while leaving your floors clean.
- Plastic and rattan outdoor furniture can fade and break when kept out in the sun for long periods of time. After use, move it into a shady spot to keep them in good condition and lasting longer.
- Regular movements and cleaning of the furniture will deter any rodents from setting up a home. Also, a fabric cover will stop them from chewing your furniture.
- Your braai should be cleaned after every use to stop food from sticking to the grills, which makes cleaning later a tough job. Make sure of products like Chemico Paste Cleen which is a gentle, strong and effective cleaner when it comes to cleaning grime off of the braai grill. It can also be used to clean the outside of the braai as well.
