We all know that the sun can be tough on a car, from faded paint to cracked upholstery. However, here are ways to take care of your car and keep it looking and running its best suggested by AutoGuide and Edmunds.

AutoGuide – website and magazine that focuses on all things automotive. It offers news, reviews, and advice on cars. It also has a section dedicated to car care.

1. The sun’s UV rays can damage your car’s paint job.

2. The sun’s heat can cause the interior of your car to become uncomfortably hot.

3. The sun’s heat can damage your car’s upholstery and dashboard.

4. The sun’s heat can cause your car’s tires to wear out faster.

5. The sun’s UV rays can cause the plastic parts of your car to fade and crack.

Edmunds – online resource that provides information and advice on cars and car ownership – also suggests the following tips for keeping your car cool when you can’t avoid parking in the sun.

  • Crack the windows slightly to allow air to circulate.
  • Tint the windows to block out some of the sun’s heat.
  • Use a sunshade to block the sun’s rays.
  • Park in the shade whenever possible, even if it means walking a bit farther.
  • Park in a covered garage or parking structure.
  • Keep the car’s AC on recirculate mode to avoid bringing in hot air from outside.

We cannot run away from the fact that somedays you will be forced to park your car in the sun due to limited parking on the shade. When this happens, here are ways on how to clean and maintain your car after it has been exposed to the sun suggested by the above-mentioned sources.

  • Wash and wax the exterior to protect the paint and prevent fading.
  • Vacuum and clean the interior to remove any dust or dirt that has accumulated.
  • Clean and condition the leather and vinyl surfaces to prevent cracking and fading.
  • Clean and protect the windows to keep them looking clear and new.
  • Check the tires and fill them with air if needed.
