Home schooling might sound like a best option for your child if you consider the one-on-one attention that the child will receive, in a more comfortable setting. The recent covid-19 outbreak which resulted in children being home schooled in many parts of the world, has led to many parents deciding to continue homeschooling their children moving forward.
Below we have shared some advantages and disadvantages of home schooling as supplied by Homeschooling Mom.
The advantages of homeschooling vary, depending on the age level of the child you’re teaching. For instance, homeschooling the younger grades can allow you to spend quality time with your little ones, never missing a single thing as they grow and learn. In your homeschooling setup, you can allow your child to bloom and truly be themselves, learning at the rate that’s best for them, in a safe environment. Another best thing about homeschooling is that no matter how old your children are, homeschooling gives you the ability to customise their learning materials. You as the homeschool parent and educator can have full educational control over the type of homeschool curriculum you’ll teach from. This form of schooling also allows you to travel with you child while not missing anything from the syllabus.
The disadvantages of home schooling include taking up a lot of your time, as the curriculum/syllabus preparations can be time consuming requiring everything to be planned in advance for a perfect execution. As a homeschooling mom you automatically become an all in one. You become a mom, teacher, school nurse, principal, lunch lady, a friend and counsellor. Home schooling parents also face a lot of public scrutiny from those around them and those looking afar.
