Christmas is a joyful time where many families get to indulge in many favourite culinary dishes.
While we may be looking forward to all the goodness that comes with the day that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, we need to be mindful of how we present ourselves to our friends and family members when invited as guests.
British etiquette training academy, The British School of Excellence offers a few tips on how to be a perfect guest this Christmas.
- Be tidy and treat the space with respect – whether you are invited overnight or just for a meal, it is always good to tidy up the spaces you’re using, shares the training centre.
- Always come bearing gifts – arriving empty handed to a place you’re invited to is not wrong, but it is not a sign of good etiquette either. A bottle of wine, a box of chocolates or a fruit basket are some of the things you may take with.
- Make yourself useful and offer to help with the cooking – as a guest, you may not be expected to help prepare meals but it is always good etiquette to help out where you can. The training academy suggests you assist with things like preparing the table. You can also help tidy up and wash the dishes when everyone has finished eating.
- Mind your drinking – when on holiday, we tend to relax a bit and may indulge more than usual on our favourite drinks. The American publishing platform Medium suggests drinking moderately in order to be at our best behaviour.
