Towels are a necessity in all our lives, they are often a key factor to why we feel fresh after a long day’s work after a good shower.
However, it would be wrong to assume that you are completely clean just because you have showered.
According to Healthline, one of the leading websites in health and wellness, humans have around 19 million skin cells and 650 sweat glands. Furthermore, dead cells make up approximately 20 layers of our skin. While much of it gets removed as we wash, a lot of it will end up in our towels.
Meanwhile, in an interview with the American lifestyle website, House Beautiful Dr. Kristina Collins, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist and founder of Austin Skin in Texas, highlights that not washing your towel can cause serious health hazards.
Some of these include facial acne, body acne, and folliculitis (i.e. when hair follicles become infected or inflamed).
It is for this reason that you need to implement a strict routine that involves cleaning and replacing your towels regularly.
When should the towels be replaced?
Healthline highlights that the lifespan of the towel is determined by how often it is being used.
The best way to wash your towel:
According to Healthline, the best way of taking care of your towel is by allowing it to dry before adding it to the pile of laundry. Many feel that using bleach is an effective way of removing germs, however, it is not.
To ensure a long-lasting product it would be wise to follow the instructions on laundry detergents to get the most efficiency. This can mean changing your water levels and temperature.
Consider using a laundry booster or adding vinegar to your rinse cycle. Running a rinse cycle with just vinegar can kill unwanted bacteria in the machine.
Lastly avoid filling the entire washing machine with towels, if you do this, it means that not all the towels would get enough detergents or water, which would affect the cleanliness.
