How to choose people to be in your “circle of trust”

Life is too short to have regrets and spending your time with people you cannot trust. Building the right circle of trust enables you to be free to live your best life.

Imagine having to watch what you say because you are worried people will take what you said and spread it to everyone who wants to listen.

Building a circle of people you can trust can be your safety haven, having people who can protect you behind your back and always having your back.

According to All Pro Dad, when you are choosing friends these are the qualities you should look into:

  1. Choose friends who exhibit good character. Choose your friends based on their values, not their status in society.
  2. Choose friends who are dependable. Choose friends who will stand by and guide you when you need it.
  3. Choose friends who give wise counsel. “There are other voices of wisdom in my life as well, friends whose counsel I often seek before making the really important decisions of my life. People who see the same direction for my life that I see- God’s direction,” says All Pro Dad.

However, StaySidebySide says there isn’t a perfect friend, although you’re looking for qualities that serve you. A true friend should be able to hold you accountable for your actions when you’re in the wrong.

Sometimes it’s not that we can’t have people who don’t believe in everything we do, but those people do not belong in your “circle of trust.”  Those that are closest to us should hold our same beliefs and values.  If not, we place ourselves in a very vulnerable and dangerous position.
