Mzansi users expressed their gratitude towards a Durban policewoman who made headlines after she took care of a baby that was abandoned at a police station.
As per reports by the DailySun, sergeant Slindile Masondo came to the rescue after a mother left her baby unattended claiming that she was going to the bathroom at Ntuzuma Police Station.
Speaking to the news publication Slindile said, “The child was brought to Ntuzuma SAPS by a man who alleged that the child was abandoned by her mother.”
The police officer posted on TikTok explaining that the mother’s whereabouts were not known and that the baby was crying uncontrollably through the night till the morning, adding that although social workers were contacted she had to take care of the baby as they didn’t operate during the weekend.
@the_sindystraw A lady came into Ntuzuma Police Station with a baby ,asked to use the toilets and then she disappeared ,this was Saturday to now her whereabouts are unknown ,the baby cried throughout the evening until morning broke ,social workers were contacted and they said they only work Monday to Friday which means They have no standby duties clearly….however a Sgt S Masondo was able to go beyond the call of duty and carry this baby, buy nappies ,warm clothes and porridge as it was more than 12 hours since this baby had last eaten .We can say a lot about the police but there are still truly good police officers out there well done to Ntuzuma saps 🙏🏻🙏🏻 #fypage #fypシ゚viral #trending #ntuzuma #policeoftiktok ♬ original sound – Sindy Straw
Many users were emotional about this story with some of them questioning the mother’s integrity when it came to leaving her baby with other people. Although this is a sensitive issue, mothers go through a lot with their children with some women even suffering from underlying mental health issues.
One user said that the mother tried her best and thanked the sergeant for stepping in.
Another user asked if she could adopt the baby.
