One of the most interesting things that I’ve come across is that some individuals look up a restaurant’s menu before going there. I get the sense that it is definitely one of those “hear me out” moments. However, some beg to differ and question if it is genius thinking or just needless overanalysing.
So, are you this person who would go on Google and search the menu of the restaurant that you are planning to go to? If this is you and you have been questioned as to why you do so, say less, I got you.
I am on the “planning everything” side of the world. I try very hard not to work through chaos, my anxiety will not allow me to live through that day, so I plan and this is for almost every aspect of my life.
I highly recommend doing so, especially if you are a first-time diner at a particular restaurant. Think of it this way, If you plan ahead what meals, drinks, and desserts you wish to order spares you from the last-minute panic when the waiter arrives. In fact, it would benefit both of you in terms of time.
Additionally, looking over the selections beforehand will help you avoid the awkward “Uhm… do you have any substitutions for this type of meal?” situation if you have dietary limitations.
However, even I can admit that there’s a flip side to this dilemma-like situation. So, can this planning ahead detract from the enjoyment of eating? Seeing what catches your eye in the moment, accepting a little spontaneity, and perhaps even learning something new which is all parts of the experience of eating out.
It would not be fair to expect a person not to live a little from time to time. So, if there’s a day when you feel like being surprised by what you pick from the menu, then absolutely go for it. It is not a crime, like I said, I plan for almost every aspect of my life, not all of it.
