OCD stands for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
Mayo clinic describes OCD as someone who has a tendency to doubt and having difficulty tolerating uncertainty. The obsession of wanting things to be done in an orderly fashion and having controlling issues.
If this isn’t you, then you definitely have met a person with OCD, sometimes you want to understand them and at times they can be very frustrating, imagine someone walking behind you to fix everything you have touched the way it was originally placed.
However, with every diagnoses there is a way to learn to live with it or treatment that will make you tolerable to other people.
According to Medical News Today OCD can be a disruptive condition to live with, but there are ways you can cope with it after you understand it. Here are steps that can help you:
Understanding and talking about it
Be open about the condition with your family and friends so they can understand and help you to feel less isolated, it is also recommended by experts to join support groups of people living with this condition and trying to overcome it.
Relax and stress less
If you have been observant towards people who are stressing, some tend to fidget a lot, some spring clean and others like being fixated on things that they have no control over, therefore it is wise to pay attention to things that trigger you and minimise how you’re letting them affect you.
There are easy things you can do like, breathing techniques, relaxation, meditating or trying new activities like arts and crafts.
Sleep and exercise more
Make an effort to have regular sleeping patterns and make sure you get enough recommended sleep, because many mental problems are caused by lack of sleep. Avoid any distractions before bedtime, for example, phones, junk food, caffeine and alcohol.
MDC recommends food that release energy slowly — such as nuts, seeds, pasta, rice, and cereals — are a preferable alternative because they help to balance blood sugar levels.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder has no medication but doctor’s can prescribe anti-depressants using their discretion according to your symptoms.
