Lobola negotiations end in a bloody affair

A day meant to celebrate the unity of two families ends in tears after 7 family members were shot dead in Orange Farm.

According to news publication, DailySun, the suspect involved in this bloody affair was a tavern owner in the area, adding that, they ended up killing seven people leaving another three injured.

The above-mentioned source states that before the shooting, Innocent Mantsione was defending his brother-in-law who had allegedly been in a physical altercation with the tavern owner.

Speaking to entertainment publication, ZiMoja, on the recent shooting, Gauteng Police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said, “It is alleged that the tavern owner followed him home, where the family members were still celebrating after lobola negotiations. The tavern owner entered the house and opened fire on the family members, killing seven people in the process.”

Furthermore, the police spokesperson added, “Four people survived the shooting, two of them, a 31-year-old and a one-year-old boy, were taken to the hospital with injuries, while a 24-year-old woman and a four-year-old did not sustain any injuries.”

Despite running away from the angry tavern owner, Innocent told DailySun that he went into hiding with his brother-in-law, but was shocked to hear a rail of gunshots coming from the house.

He said, “My mother was shot more than five times, the three-year-old boy was shot in the head and others were shot several times. My sister’s one-year-old boy is fighting for his life in hospital as he got shot as well. On the day I called my family to celebrate with me as I had paid lobola. I did not know it would be the day I lost my family.”
