We are all guilty of the iconic ‘I’m tired’ saying during the day. Whether you be at work, home or on-the-go, fatigue seems to be following us more often than we like. However, to avoid the unwanted midday fatigue, we have surviver guide tips to help you.
Tailor tasks
As humans, we have optimal windows [time] for our most creative and focused work. Some work best at night, while others work best in the morning. However, knowing your creative window period is important when needing to focus for lengthy periods of time. Therefore, alter your schedule according to peaks and valleys – having the peaks at the time when you are most functional. Should you not have the option to do this, opt for bulky tasks according to energy capacity.
Move around
Taking a brisk walk, jog or even stretching at your desk can help elevate fatigue creeping in. Moving around, be it two or ten minutes, is good for the body and brain. Sitting or lounging around all day can suppress oxygen flow in the body which ultimately causes the fatigue slump to kick-in. Which is why moving around during the course of the day is essential when wanting to minimise unwanted sleepy heads.
Avoid caffeine
No, we are not saying stay away from caffeine, but avoid resulting to it when you are tired. Like any other drug, coffee sends you on a high and boosts your energy; but at some point during the day, your energy deteriorates way more and results in you feeling extra tired. Opt for a fresh glass or water or juice to improve brain and body stimulation.
Play music
As the saying goes ‘music is good for the soul’. Use it to pump you up or calm you down, there is no such thing as a bad beat. Some would say instrumental while others would say contemporary, but not all genres will suit all people. So, find what fits you best and go with that. Set your environment to be music to your ears.
More sleep
The thing many of us love the most that we fail being good at. Being sleep deprived plays a huge role in fatigue experienced throughout the day. Skipping sleep doses each day has noticeable effects and will not only contribute to dark eyed circles, but frequent burnout as well. Schedule your work day accordingly to prevent it from overlapping into your resting time.
Whether you are dog-tired or out of gas, try these tips to help get you back into action. As the doctor would say, a nap a day keeps the fatigue away.
