There are many reasons why people choose to love one season more than the others, some reasons are related to the weather associated with that season and some reasons are just personal.
A medical online website called 2 Know Myself mentions that some people love a certain season based on psychological reasons. The publication gave about 5 reasons why some people love winter.
Psychological security
The publication claims that your mood and psychological state are influenced by everything that happens to you. In winter, people usually turn on heaters, lock doors, and close windows, “they withdraw into a little space within their home as a result, leading the subconscious mind to assume that they are safe from outside threats.” According to the publication in question, reduced stress and a sense of security lead to a person thinking they enjoy the winter when in reality they only feel safe because they are locked indoors.
Less guilt
Most people find no excuses to delay work, go out with friends or go to the gym on a sunny day, but if the weather looks a bit wet and cold things take a different turn. The publication reports that when someone ditches a task on a cold day, they typically feel less bad about it than they would if they were to delay it on a bright day.
No FOMO
Oftentimes, if the weather is nice and other kids are playing outside while you are at home unable to go, you feel like you are missing out. According to the publication above, people often feel at ease when the weather is bad because they know that there’s not a lot going on outside that they are missing out on.
Personality
Your personality can also be a reason you love winter, “Introverts enjoy staying alone and have no problems spending a day or two inside their house.” This is not the same case with extroverts as the publication mentions that “Extroverts always hate cold weather unless they want to go skiing or do an outdoor activity.” 2 Know Myself then suggests that if you are introverted, you are most likely to love the winter season.
Less stress
“People feel as though life slows down during the winter months because there is less noise on the streets and fewer open restaurants and businesses.” The publication then believes that this makes people feel more at ease and less anxious.
Psychology Today, an online media organisation that focuses on psychology and human behaviour states that winter is the season of reflection and gratitude, where you need to embrace the people around you and “hit pause on to-dos and press play on perspective.”
