Preparing for a newborn can be both exciting and intimidating. While a baby shower is a traditional celebration, more moms are choosing a nesting party for a less traditional and low-key experience. A baby shower becomes a huge help in an expectant mother’s life, as it eases off the financial load of having to buy baby essentials.
However, imagine how helpful it would be if, as a pregnant woman, you could have people come over to your house, not just to offer you gifts but to offer you help with the essential work that comes with being a new mom.
According to the Parents publication, a nesting party is a small gathering of close family and friends to help prepare the mom to feel ready for welcoming a baby. It states that this party focuses on the needs of the new parents, making them feel supported and relieved of pressure.
The Scary Mommy publication explains that nesting parties are focused on organising and preparing the home with tasks that may include general house cleaning, laundry and baby clothes assembly, nursery decoration, meal-prepping, postpartum preparation, car seat and stroller assembly, sterilising parts of baby monitors and sound machines, hospital bag packing, diaper caddy and first-aid kit preparation, and more.
“You can expect a few snacks, a drink, and a few minutes of catching up with everyone in attendance, but then it’s time to help mom with whatever she needs. Typically there will be a game plan or a list of things that need to be done, and each person is either assigned something based on their strengths or they can volunteer for a task.”
These two events can even be combined, which would be even more impactful, making the mom’s pregnancy journey much lighter and bearable.
