Skin changes that occur as you grow older

Our skin is the largest organ of our bodies, therefore it matters to us how it looks and its health condition. As we age, our bodies experience a lot of changes, some we’re able to work out and modify, and some just need us to embrace them.

Your skin also changes as the years go by, the same resistance and beauty it used to have slowly become transformed into memorial marks that tell a story of how your youthful life has been.

Here are some of the changes you need to expect as you grow older:

Wrinkles: According to the National Institute of Aging, your skin will develop wrinkles, which are caused by environmental factors like UV light, gravity, and smoking.

Age spots: It is further mentioned by the above source that you will develop age spots and skin tags. These are said to be common skin issues caused by years of sun exposure.

Thining: Better Health states that “The basal cell layer of the epidermis slows its rate of cell production and thins the epidermis.” It is further mentioned that these alterations together increase the likelihood of wrinkles and crepes in the skin. “Blood vessels in older, thinner skin are more likely to break and bruise. They may also become permanently widened. This is commonly known as broken vessels.”

Dryness: The above source continues to state that as skin ages, fewer sweat and oil glands are present and that this may increase the skin’s susceptibility to dryness-related issues including roughness and irritation
