When it comes to the clothing we wear, a lot goes into having items that come from an array of colours to give your wardrobe the diversity it needs to have you looking great no matter the occasion.
While donning one’s favourite outfit is certainly the main reason for purchasing clothing items, it is equally important to ensure that they are clean and smelling fresh for the next time you plan on wearing it.
This is where things become tricky and scary at the same time.
This is because even though washing one’s clothes are positive signs of practicing good hygiene, the tough devastating part is seeing the colour of some of your most loved clothing items starting to fade.
It is for this reason that many people try and avoid washing their clothes regularly, but this does not always mean it is the right solution.
Here is how you can avoid the decolouration of your favourite clothing items:
Check the care label – The lifestyle publication Fully Promoted says that it is important to read the instructions found on the care label of your clothes. These are usually beneficial in indicating they should be hand washed or thrown into the machine. In addition, it provides careful instructions on the drying method, which keeps your fabric and its colour in optimal condition.
Turn clothing inside out – To prevent discoloration of your clothing, turn it inside out before putting it in the washer or dryer. This helps reduce the chances of pilling and fading. When drying in the sun, make sure to keep your clothes inside out to minimize colour loss due to prolonged sun exposure, explains Fully Promoted.
Avoid over drying – To prevent colours from fading, avoid over-drying clothes. Lifestyle publication The Spruce explains that this is known for causing bright colours to fade.
Instead, remove them from the dryer while slightly damp or consider line-drying. Turn coloured items inside out to prevent fading from the sun.
