The power of social media should not be taken for granted, from how it can lift someone’s spirit to how quickly it can destroy them.
Lungisani Mjaji who is a photographer and uncle of the iconic young girl who was pictured playing in the mud whilst holding Albany bread shared that VW Travels & Tours sponsored the little girl with a fully paid trip international vacation.
This is after Lungisani came forward detailing that the rumour that the bread company compensated them for the picture was untrue, “We received no compensation from that Albany thing. Let’s dispel the notion that we gained anything from it. We’ve moved on, we’re creating, and I trust that God will guide our path. I’ll personally support the child with what little I have. ‘Ubuntu abusekho (There is no more generosity).”
A mysterious man based in South Africa, BI Phakathi took it upon himself to donate R15 000 to the young girl.
Getting more blessings, Lungisani took to his Facebook account and shared a poster of a Mozambique 5-day trip by VW Travel &Tours. In his caption, he wrote, “Passport for 3 paid by VW Travel & Tours. R2000 for Lethukukhanya_mjaji. R2000 for Passports.Total amount of R4000 . Thank you vw_travel_and_tours. Mhlampe ngizoke ngithole nomalumekazi ekuhambeni (Maybe I’ll get her an aunt on the trip).”
Social media users took to the comment section to expressed their joy for the two:
“Lungisani your family and the whole community is blessed to birthed the son of your caliber. One day you will be in history books fie bringing change and being a role model for kids from rural areas. More ndodana all the best.”
