We have all experienced a power cut right at the moment when we are thinking about what to cook for dinner. No electricity means cooking supper is canceled and you will have to opt for takeaways or a quick snack that will probably not fill you up.
We’ve got you covered, here’s a list of great loadshedding friendly dinner tips:
Prepare in advance
It’s important to look at your loadshedding schedule and work around it. See what foods you can prepare in advance that you can either warm up closer to when you power will cut or toss them in a fresh salad.
Get a good flash, if you are a tea or coffee lover, boil water and keep it in a flask for when you need hot water.
Cook and prepare your starch for a lovely fresh salad. For example, prepare barley, bulgur wheat, couscous, quinoa or rice prior to load shedding so you can just toss them in a fresh salad.
Cooking your starches and meats in advance and only making the sides on the day which will be quicker. For example, your rice and pasta.
Braai
If it so happens that you have not prepared in advance for load shedding, a break is always a great idea. There is quite a lot one can prepare on the braai stand and the great thing about this is that you do not need electricity.
