Love is in the air!
As we approach the month of love, many people will be looking to come up with creative ways to spoil their significant other: some might purchase extravagant gifts, while others may opt for romantic vacations, or possibly a proposal – not forgetting those who will be looking to impress their long-time crush with a spontaneous date.
If this is where you find yourself, this article is specifically for you!
With everyone being in a lovey mood, February might be the perfect month to sweep your crush off from their feet.
However, to make this a reality, the aim of the game is to plan accordingly. There is a saying that goes, “proper planning prevents poor performance,” this is why it is important to put some thought into what it is that you want to achieve when attempting to do something special on your first date.
Having a proper plan in place is key to determining how successful you might be, in securing a second date. Most people either fail to plan or over-plan, and this can lead to negative results.
To assist you with having a successful first date, we have listed a few things that you should never do as recommended by lifestyle publications Cosmopolitan and The Gentleman’s Journal.
Here is the list:
Constantly checking your phone: Continuously checking your phone is considered to be one of the worst things you can do on a first date. While it may be as a result of nerves, checking your phone constantly may show a lack of interest in the conversation.
Instead, make a mental list of what you would like to know about the person, and try and find similarities and differences between you. Having differences is not necessarily a bad thing, instead, it gives room for you to learn more about the person.
Talking about your ex: Speaking about your ex is something you should avoid at all costs. According to Cosmopolitan, continuously speaking about your ex might give the impression that you are not over them.
Getting drunk: This should be avoided at all costs. Nobody enjoys being on a date with someone who ends up losing balance and slurring their words. Instead, keep your alcohol intake to a minimum.
Talking about yourself too much: This is seen as being conceited. Instead, have a balance of asking your date more about him or herself, and relating it to you only when necessary. This shows that you have an interest in getting to know them.
